Gilded
Venetian Mirror
A spectacular Venetian mirror in giltwood with original mercury glass plates, dating to the Rococo period (circa 1740). The elaborate carved surround features scrolling acanthus leaves, cartouches, and a crowned crest with putti — elements characteristic of the Venetian workshops of the period. The glass retains its original silvering, which gives the distinctive warm, slightly shadowed reflection that modern mirrors cannot replicate. Minor losses to the gilding have been professionally in-painted by a specialist in Venetian decorative arts. The piece measures 180 × 95 cm and would serve as a focal point in any period room.
