Meiji
Period Silk Screen Painting
A large-format silk painting from Japan's Meiji period (1868–1912), depicting Mount Fuji at dawn with a procession of cranes in the foreground. The work is executed in mineral pigments on hand-stretched silk, mounted in the traditional kakejiku scroll format with silk brocade borders. The artist's seal, rendered in vermillion, has been attributed by Tokyo National Museum scholars to Kawanabe Kyōsai's school. The painting is in exceptional condition, with no fading or repair, and comes housed in the original lacquered wooden storage box inscribed with the subject title in gold ink. A work of genuine museum quality.
